TaxBee was founded in 2017 by Bianca Ferguson, a seasoned accountant with over two decades of experience and a passion for helping clients manage their finances. Starting in Pearland, Texas, Bianca set out to create a firm capable of serving a diverse range of clients, from small businesses to high-net-worth individuals and professional athletes.

To no one’s surprise, TaxBee has grown substantially over the past seven years. While this growth was exciting, it also intensified their challenges with workflow inefficiencies, including the difficulty of juggling multiple tools to track documents, tasks, and tax preparation. Bianca’s vision of a client-centered firm meant she’d need to find a better solution to streamline operations without sacrificing quality.

Before switching to Canopy, TaxBee relied on a combination of separate tools like Google Drive, Asana, Ignition, and ProConnect to manage their clients' documents, tasks, billing, and tax preparations. This inevitably created a range of operational inefficiencies and caused the team to spend a considerable amount of time navigating between platforms. This system also created gaps in communication not only within the firm but with clients, adding to the administrative load. As TaxBee’s client base grew, these inefficiencies became “too much,” and Bianca started her search for a better solution.

Canopy provided TaxBee with a unified solution that consolidated document management, task assignments, billing, and communication into one platform. Bianca describes Canopy as a transformative tool, noting that Canopy has “cut her time in half.” Staying within a single tool, along with using Canopy’s AI features for routine administrative tasks, has significantly boosted her team’s productivity. 

Integrations with Quickbooks have also enabled the TaxBee team to streamline workflows and manage client projects more efficiently. The client portal has been particularly game-changing, giving clients instant access to their documents, financial records, and billing information — improving transparency and reducing the need for back-and-forth inquiries.

Since implementing Canopy, TaxBee has experienced substantial time savings and productivity gains. Bianca estimates Canopy saves her “4 hours per day, which equates to 20 hours a week.” This improvement has allowed her to “go home at five o'clock” rather than working late to meet client demands—a rare luxury many accountants struggle to achieve with 60 to 80-hour work weeks. Additionally, TaxBee’s tax return processing time has decreased from a 14-day turnaround time to near immediate completion, allowing the firm to double its capacity, now processing 600+ tax returns annually. With more than 1,200 clients utilizing Canopy's client portal, users now have independent access to their documents and billing. This enhancement creates a seamless client experience while significantly reducing the administrative workload.
