Having fun at work might sound like an oxymoron at first, especially in the middle of tax season, but with relatively little effort, having fun at work could help boost morale at work and in turn, boost productivity.
For a lot of accountants, mainly those with a tax practice, it’s currently the busy season. But, that means staff morale may not be the greatest right now. Add on the fact that we’re in the post-holiday humdrum of January and it’s safe to say that team members could be feeling pretty low. Thankfully, this week there is a silly “holiday” to celebrate and use an excuse to boost your team’s morale: National Have Fun at Work Day, on Friday, Jan. 28. You don’t need to do anything big or crazy, but it’s a good excuse to pay a little extra attention to your team. Here are 3 quick and easy ways you can celebrate this day and make work fun.
How to celebrate national have fun at work day
1. Organize a game during lunch break
You can organize an optional meeting during your team’s typical lunch break and provide food and games, to give everyone a chance to mingle, take a quick break and have fun. If your office is working remotely, it’s easy to set up games everyone can play from their home offices with these two free platforms:

- Kahoot!

- If your office uses Slack, consider getting the GameMonk integration. It is a virtual trivia game you can play right in Slack. The rounds typically only last around one minute, and you can play as many rounds as you have time for.

Keep in mind these online games can also be played in person!
2. Play office-themed trivia
If you have a little more time on your hands, you can put together some themed trivia questions about your accounting firm and staff. This could be a fun way to encourage the staff to learn more about the accounting firm and mingle with fellow coworkers. If you choose to make trivia questions about staff members, be sure to keep it light-hearted!
3. Bring in treats to the office
This is an easy and low-maintenance way to help encourage people to have fun at work. By simply bringing in donuts, or another treat, into work, you could easily improve an employee’s day. Plus, this option doesn’t require interrupting anyone’s work day and can instead run behind the scenes in the background as everyone continues to get their work done.
If you have the time and resources, you can also do some combination of all three options! Do you plan to celebrate this holiday at your office? If so, let us know in the comments below what you have in mind to make work a little more fun this Friday.
