2022 IRS Tax Deadline On April 18, 2022
In 2022, the IRS tax deadline will feel a little bit more familiar than the last few years. Yep, that’s right—it’s back in April! But, it isn’t on April 15 this year, and thankfully it has nothing to do with COVID-19. Instead, the tax deadline will be on Monday, April 18, 2022 to accommodate for a holiday.
Emancipation Day, a federal holiday on April 16, falls on a Saturday this year, pushing the observed date to Friday, April 15. To accommodate the holiday, the tax deadline has been moved to Monday April 18, 2022 for most filers. But, if you live in Massachusetts or Maine, you get an extra day since April 18 is Patriots’ Day. The deadline for those states is April 19, 2022.
What's crazy is we haven't had an April 15 tax deadline in this decade! In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the tax deadline into July and last year, the deadline was in May.
Hey, but at least things are starting to get back to normal! How do you feel about the tax deadline being back in April? Let us know in the comments below.
